Cities - Best/Worst

The Economist has come up with list of world's best and worst livable cities. African and South Asian cities top in the list of worst cities. Canadian and Australian cities dominated the list of best cities in the world.

Fortunately no Indian city is part of worst cities list and unfortunately no city is part of best cities also. Hope Indian cities will make in the list of best cities in the world soon. Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Banglore, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad etc. should try to become most livable cities in world.

Here is the list as per Economist.

4. Port Moresby – Papua New Guinea

Criteria for selection

The Economist Intelligence Unit’s liveability rating quantifies the challenges that might be presented to an individual's lifestyle in 140 cities worldwide. Each city is assigned a score for over 30 qualitative and quantitative factors across five broad categories: stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

Hi Vikram

I dont agree with the most livable cities' list prepared by the Economist. I think its more biased towards Australian and Canadian cities but I feel that there are several Scandivanian and western European countries which could be in the list of most livable cities.

Hi Aparna

There are list of parameters based on which these cities have been declared as best livable cities. Scandinavian and western countries might not be able to perform well on those parameters.

Can you give me brief idea about your assignment, so that accordingly i can try to help.

Not sure what they base their ratings on, but in Pakistan you find more people Moving to karachi, than getting away from it, and that says a lot about its liveability. Being a local from karachi, and having lived in london and then melbourne/Adelaide, i would say, Karachi's been built up to be the scariest place ever, when in reality, when i compare it with the other cities, each one of them had areas which were quite dangerous and others that were the best place to be at. I felt safer being out at 2-3 am in karachi then i ever did in london as an example.

Thanks Humna

But as i mention, this list is based on survey carried out by Economic Times, so there may be missing person experience of people like us.

Even i believe few cities from India are worth having names here such as Chandigarh (New capital of Indian side of Punjab).

But given a chance, i want to visit Pakistan's cities such as Lahore and Karachi and then based on my personal experience i can further upgrade this list with my favourite cities.

By the way, recently i got book, which has best 100 cities in World and it has both Lahore and Karachi being listed there. I am writing another blog on that very soon.

Thanks once again and keep writing on blog.
