We just finished 11
days of travel with coverage of three wonderful SouthEast Asian countries. It
is time to go back to routine but here is good summary from this memorable
trip.
1. Three southeast
asian countries - Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore
2. Cities and
places covered - Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon), Can Tho, Chau Doc -all Vietnam,
Phnom Penh, Seam Reap - all Cambodia and Singapore.
3. What we liked
the most - Angkor Wat (biggest religious monument in the world and Mekong Delta
(lifeline of Vietnam)
4. What we liked
for our Food and Drinks - Fish Amok, tried almost everything in BBQ, Lok Lak,
Bugs at Pub Street, Fried Ice Cream Rolls, Veg Thaali at Sarvanan Bhavan,
Vietnamese Ice coffee, Ice Cream sandwich, rice wine at Mekong, beers almost
every day with local brands like (Saigon Green Special, Saigon Red, Cambodia,
Angkor, Anchor) and then at last, the best ghar kaa bana khana at Sunil's place
- Thanks Aunty.
5. Stayed in 6
hotels with best stay at Hung homestay with cooking classes, cook your own
dinner and rice wine being served after food.
6. Best internal
journey - Mekong river cruise for crossing Vietnam and Cambodia border. First
time experience of crossing water border.
7. Mekong express
bus from Phnom Penh to Siam Reap was quite decent, accurate and comfortable
journey.
8. Best photography
experience - Royal Palace at Phnom Penh and Angkor Religious complex
9. Cycling within
Mekong villages and Hand ridden boats were amazing for bird watching at Trasu
forest- also in Mekong delta
10. Historical
sites - Cu Chi tunnels from Vietnam War and Killing fields in Cambodia. Aaina
listened to whole audio tour for killing fields and she was able to give
history lesson back to Pa.
11. Kids enjoyed
most at the adventure cove park with water rides at Sentosa Island (Singapore),
nail art and swimming time at hotel pools.
12. Most underrated
place was Phnom Penh, which deserve better place on tourism map. Most of us
does now know, Phnom is actually capital of Cambodia
13. Most overrated
place was Cai Be floating market in Mekong, maybe timings chosen were not
correct or maybe expectations were too high.
14. Best discovered
thing was Aaina's natural photography poses and her swimming confidence at
Sentosa water park.
15. Interesting
fact - both Vietnam and Cambodia does not have coins for transactions. Cambodia
even allow USD for day to day transactions.
16. Last but not
the least - Shopping at Central market, Phnom Penh was mind blowing.
