Yesterday, I saw a bit old movie Bawandar, based on true story of SAATHIN Worker। Nandita Das has played the central role in the movie, supported by Raghuvir Yadav, Dipti Naval, Rahul Khanna, Gulshan Grover etc.
Bawandar makes you feel that, we are still living in a country, which has many basic drawbacks such as inspite of having an independent judiciary, victims don’t get justice। Nandita Das played the role of SAATHIN who was gang raped by upper caste villagers, because she speak against the prevalent system of child marriage. With all odds she shows courage to get justice, but she has to face all difficulties to get justice.
Impact of upper caste, impact of politicians on judiciary, weak law and order system, insufficient medication facilities, women exploitation etc have been shown quite emphatically। Movie is highly recommended to those who want to see, failure of system, efforts of a rape victim for justice and class performances by Nandita Das, Gulshan Grover and Raghuvir Yadav.
Movie has been shot in Rajasthan with backdrop of sand dunes and coloured costumes of villagers, Jagmohan Mandura, director of Bawandar has done a great job to give a real look to movie and Nandita Das has done excellent job as SAATHIN worker

SAATHIN means Friend and this programme was promoted by Government to involve woman in village as a social worker to work against child marriage, women exploitation etc.
